Our first Community Baby Shower & Family Resource Fair.

Young families, community partners, and volunteers filled the room for an afternoon built around one idea: every parent leaves with what the baby needs and the people who can help them next.

The day

A baby shower for the whole community.

Teen Parenting Navigators hosted its first Community Baby Shower and Family Resource Fair at Schroeder Park, home of the Broadview Park District.

Young parents and their families were welcomed with a styled baby shower, a complimentary meal for everyone who came through the door, and a program of remarks from TPN leadership, the Broadview Park District, and a keynote from TPN board member Carissa Gillespie.

Families went home with car seats, bassinets, playpens, strollers, diapers, wipes, and clothing. Just as important, they went home connected to the organizations that can support them next.

How it worked

The Family Resource Passport.

  1. Check in. Every registered parent received a Family Resource Passport.
  2. Meet the partners. Parents visited each partner table and learned about that organization's programs and services.
  3. Collect the essentials. With a completed passport, families moved on to the baby essentials distribution.

A day about diapers became a day about health coverage, counseling, childcare, and family support that lasts long after the boxes are unpacked.
